Tom Maher and Paul Tomiczek III, both vice presidents in our environmental engineering and sciences practice, and Ivan Cooper, a principal in our water resources practice, were all co-authors of different published works. The journal articles were created as a result of presentations at the PFAS Experts Symposium 2, which was held virtually during the summer of 2021. PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and are known as persistent organic pollutants.
The first PFAS Experts Symposium was held in May 2019. The symposiums have further helped the experts, which in turn helps our clients, in understanding PFAS. The symposiums also help uncover new knowledge of these chemicals.
The event brought together experts from a wide range of disciplines to discuss recent updates and advances regarding PFAS in the environment. Tom, Paul, and Ivan participated in the Symposium and contributed to the discussions and presentations. The three journal articles are published in “Remediation: The Journal of Environmental Cleanup Costs, Technologies, and Techniques.” The journal is read by environmental engineers, environmental managers, attorneys, and consultants.
Tom was a part of the Characterization, Fate, and Transport group at the symposium. Read more details on their paper here.

Paul was a part of the Remediation Research Workgroup. Read more details on their paper here.
Ivan contributed to discussions with other experts about PFAS ex situ treatment technologies. Read more details on their paper here.
