CEC Chicago welcomes Michael Melan as a Principal in its Waste Management Practice. Michael brings nearly 40 years of experience to his new role.
Over the course of his career, he has managed and provided troubleshooting for solid waste technical design issues, developed and managed capital and operation budgets, performed landfill operations P&L budget reviews, coordinated landfill construction projects, and performed construction CQA and monitoring reviews.
Most recently, Michael worked for a major solid waste company in Indiana as a District Manager managing operations and personnel after transitioning from a Site Engineer position serving multiple sites throughout Illinois. That role included maintaining compliance and managing a ~$10M annual construction project budget.
He served as Team Environmental Manager for a major waste management company in Indiana leading a team managing various construction projects related to liner, leachate collection, and gas collection and control systems. Among his responsibilities here, Michael managed a $15M-$20M annual capital budget and portions of a $20M annual operations budget.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a degree in Geography and Regional Planning, Michael is looking forward to the expansion of Chicago’s Waste Management Practice.
